Borage

Borage, a beautiful flower and a very useful herb to have on hand as it can be utilized in a variety of ways as it has been long prized for its many health promoting properties.

This unassuming plant is especially rich in GLA (gamma linoleic acid) which is an Omega-6 fatty acid that has been proven to decrease inflammation throughout the body.

It has also been shown that Borage may also help treat several conditions, including asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and atopic dermatitis: though certain groups of people should avoid this due to side effects that could be presented. (see Precautions below)

Traditionally, Borage has been used to:

  • Dilated blood vessels
  • Act as a sedative
  • To treat mild forms of seizures
  • To treat a variety of respiratory and digestive orders as a supplement form

There have been multiple studies done on Borage and in one study of 74 people, over the course of 18 months of taking a borage oil supplement, (with or without fish oil) has shown that the reduction of inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis was greatly reduced.

Precautions: Borage oil, like many other oils and supplements, are not regulated by the FDA and, as it is an oil, should never be ingested; only applied topically and should always be diluted with a carrier oil to prevent irritation of the skin.

Borage supplements can be ingested, however it is advised that they are purchased from a reputable source as too many borage supplements can cause mild side effects, including digestive issues like gas, bloating, and indigestion.  In rare cases, taking high doses of borage oil has been shown to cause more serious side effects, including seizures. Those that are lactating, on blood thinners or have underlying liver issues.

Ace of Wands

The traditional Tarot deck depicts the Ace of Wands as a hand emerging from the clouds whilst holding a staff that has buds of leaves on it. The background of this card shows a small mountainous view as the background image.

What makes this card really stand out is the bright coloring but also the significance behind the images.

The colors are bright and joyful, as each area of the card is saturated with varying shades of blues and greens – all of which give us a sense of what is happening in our physical world when Spring arrives.

The symbols are again reminding us of Spring by showing mountains, lazy flowing rivers and the small buds that are sprouting upon the branch.

All of this is a sign that Spring is here upon us; as well as the meaning of Spring, which is about renewed energy, a new beginning, and awakening to possibilities within our lives.

When this card comes up in a reading, it is usually taken as a sign that now is the time to plant ideas one has, that the energy is primed and whatever one sets out to do can be accomplished with perseverance, energy, vitality and continuity; just like the embodiment of Spring.
